I’ve seen the silliness of parading politicians, preachers, prophets, and musicians in a show of prayer, up close. That’s not the spirit of the National Day of Prayer. I don’t think the show is what this day represents. I think that we the people are to pray for our homes, families, schools, communities, and churches.
From the Revolutionary War to Afganistan today, we have been in a fight. A fight for freedom. These great land doesn’t need a mega pastor, a Christian politician, a hipster band or a showboat moment to approach the power of Washington. We need to approach the POWER OF THE DIVINE!
While I agree that there is such a thing as a just war, I also wonder how many conflicts we might eliminate if we were to become a nation of prayer, not just a day of prayer.
Paul put unity in pretty clear terms in Ephesians 4:3: Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
