GO IN PEACE

The Power of Chasing After Peace in Your Life

Finding peace can seem like an elusive goal in the hustle and bustle of our 21st-century life. The demands of work, family, and personal aspirations often leave us feeling overwhelmed and restless. But hear me, please. As Christians, we are called to seek peace and pursue it earnestly. The Bible offers profound insights into cultivating a peace-filled life amidst the chaos. Today, let’s look at three key ways to discover a more peace-filled life: prayer, trust in God’s sovereignty, and practicing forgiveness.

Go ahead – get after Peace Today!

1. The Power of Prayer

Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have as Followers of Jesus to cultivate peace in our lives. Philippians 4:6-7 instructs us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer is a direct line of communication with our Heavenly Father. It allows us to lay our burdens at His feet, knowing that He cares deeply for us. When we pray, we acknowledge our dependence on God and invite Him to work in our lives.

This act of surrender brings a profound sense of peace because we are reminded that we are not alone in our struggles.

To integrate prayer more deeply into your life, consider setting aside specific times each day for prayer. This could be in the morning to start your day with a sense of peace, during lunch breaks to recalibrate your focus, or in the evening to reflect on the day and seek God’s guidance for tomorrow. Incorporating prayer into everyday activities, such as praying while commuting or doing household chores, can transform ordinary moments into opportunities for divine connection. Don’t make it “religious. It’s a relationship.”

2. Trust in God’s Sovereignty

Another essential aspect of finding peace is trusting in God’s sovereignty. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Trusting in God means believing that He is in control, even when circumstances seem chaotic. It involves letting go of our need to control every aspect of our lives and placing our confidence in God’s perfect plan. This trust can be challenging, especially when we face trials and uncertainties. However, it is precisely in these moments that our faith is strengthened.

The more I attempt to control every outcome, the more those outcomes dishearten me.

One practical way to build trust in God’s sovereignty is by meditating on His promises. The Bible is filled with assurances of God’s faithfulness and love. Verses such as Romans 8:28, which says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” can provide comfort and reinforce our trust in God’s plans.

Additionally, reflecting on past experiences where God has been faithful can bolster our confidence in His sovereignty. Keeping a journal of answered prayers and moments of divine intervention can serve as a powerful reminder of God’s constant presence and provision in our lives. I love capturing answered prayers. You know, when you look for answered prayers, they are everywhere. But! To see answered prayers, you have to pray them. Then, we must trust God to do what only He can do!

3. Practicing Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a crucial component of a peace-filled life. Holding onto grudges and harboring resentment can weigh heavily on our hearts, disrupting our inner peace. Ephesians 4:31-32 advises, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Forgiveness is not always easy, but it is a commandment that brings immense freedom. When we forgive others, we release ourselves from the burden of bitterness and open our hearts to God’s healing. Forgiveness reflects God’s grace in our lives, reminding us that we are called to extend that same grace to others just as we have been forgiven.

To cultivate a forgiving heart, pray for those who have wronged you. Ask God to help you see them through His eyes and to soften your heart towards them. Remember that forgiveness is a process, and it may take time to release the hurt fully. It can also be helpful to seek counsel from trusted Christian friends, a counselor, or a pastor who can provide guidance and support as you navigate the journey of forgiveness. Just a thought – Forgiveness is rarely an act but a season. Get your season started, and enjoy the peace that follows.

Peace: Our Greatest Commodity

In a world constantly clamoring for more—more success, more possessions, more recognition—it is easy to lose sight of what truly matters.

Amidst this relentless pursuit, peace stands out as our greatest commodity.

Unlike material wealth or fleeting achievements, peace offers a deep, abiding sense of contentment and well-being that cannot be easily shaken. It is the foundation upon which all other aspects of our lives can thrive. Without peace, our hearts are restless, our minds troubled, and our relationships strained. True peace, which flows from a close relationship with God, surpasses all earthly gains. It provides the stability and clarity needed to navigate life’s challenges, enabling us to respond with grace and compassion. Thus, prioritizing peace in our lives is not merely an option but a necessity, for it enriches every other facet of our existence and aligns us more closely with God’s purpose for us.

Chasing after peace in our lives is not a passive endeavor but an active pursuit rooted in our relationship with Christ. Through prayer, we connect with God and experience His peace that surpasses all understanding. By trusting in God’s sovereignty, we relinquish our need for control and rest in His perfect plan. Practicing forgiveness frees us from the chains of bitterness and allows us to walk in the freedom of Christ’s love.

As we diligently seek peace through these practices, we are transformed into vessels of God’s peace in a world desperately in need of it. Let us commit to pursuing peace, trusting that God will guide our steps and fill our lives with His everlasting peace.
