4forFRIDAY with AChuck

Happy Friday!

Each week I like to share four resources that have challenged, sharpened or encouraged me. These recommendations aren’t necessarily church related or even spiritually focused. They aren’t doctrinal statements. They are just a few recommended reads, listens, learnings, gadgets or restaurants. I hope you will enjoy them as well. Please let me know what you think!

Here’s this week’s 4forFRIDAY June 23, 2017

  1. A Really Good Movie: MEGAN LEAVThe true life story of Megan Leavy, a young Marine corporal whose unique discipline and bond with a military combat dog saved many lives during her deployment in Iraq. Assigned to clean up the K-9 unit after a disciplinary hearing, Leavey starts to identify with Rex, a particularly aggressive dog that she trains. Over the course of their service, Megan and Rex complete more than 100 missions until an improvised explosive device injures both, putting their fates in jeopardy. I hope you enjoy this film. It made me clap during the credits!
  2. A Really Good APP: THINGS (3) If you have been a part of the 4forFRIDAY nation for more than a month, you know that I’m a seeker of the most effective and efficient way to mange both energy and tasks. I was a THINGS user several years ago, but thought the updates and changes made it feel forced and bulky. When the new Things 3 rolled out, it was a game changer. I love the clean and efficient task management tools that allow for a parking lot of “to-do’s” as well as day and time stamped tasks. If you are searching for a great way to manage your tasks via your phone, tablet and computer this is for you!
  3. A Really Good Read: The CEO of Automattic on Holding Auditions to Build a Strong Team by Matt Mullenweg In this Harvard Business Review article you’ll read a few fresh thoughts from one of the brightest young CEOs in America. In its early years, Automattic relied on traditional résumé screening and interviews to do its hiring. But over time Mullenweg came to focus on tryouts, in which final candidates are paid to spend several weeks working on a project.
  4. A Really, Really Great Listen: Worthy of Your Name from Passion This album is packed with great worship music, but the first time I heard “Worthy of Your Name” I was blown away. On my way home from High School Beach Camp, I listened to and sang this song over and over. Every now and then there is a song that captures both your heart and your head. This is a must listen if you enjoy worship music as a part of your daily meditation!

And a quote I’m pondering from the Dwight Eisenhow: Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.

Thank you for being a part of the 4forFRIDAY family. Hundreds of folks subscribe to this weekly list of recommended reads, listens, learnings, gadgets and food! I hope you’ll share today’s 4forFRIDAY on your social media pages! You might also enjoy our Weekday Podcast: 5 minutes/day, 5 days/week.
