Welcome to “Revelation 19,” one of the most vivid and powerful chapters in the Bible. This is another example of how the Scriptures offer timeless wisdom and sacred texts. I love this text and I love the song by the same name, here. Thanks for joining me as we jump into Revelation 19.
Revelation 19:1-2 ESV
After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, [2] for his judgments are true and just; for he has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality, and has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
Picture this: The cosmos holds its breath. History teeters on the edge of transformation. And then… a thunderous chorus erupts from heaven itself.
“Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God!”
This, dear reader, is how Revelation 19 begins – with an explosion of joy and triumph. But what’s the cause for such celebration?
Imagine you’re living in a world where injustice seems to reign supreme. Where the powerful crush the weak, where lies drown out truth. Now imagine hearing that all of that is about to change forever. That’s the electric atmosphere of this chapter.
The multitudes in heaven are rejoicing because Babylon – the symbol of all that’s corrupt and oppressive in the world – has fallen. Divine justice has prevailed. It’s as if the universe itself is exhaling in relief.
But this is just the prelude.
The scene shifts, and we encounter one of the most awe-inspiring images in all of scripture: A rider on a white horse, eyes blazing like fire, crowned with many diadems. His name? Faithful and True.
This isn’t just any rider. This is the Word of God himself, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He comes not as a helpless babe in a manger, but as a conquering hero, leading the armies of heaven.
Now, I know what some of you might be thinking. “This sounds like a lot of violence and judgment. Where’s the inspiration in that?”
Here’s the thing: Revelation 19 isn’t about glorifying violence. It’s about hope. Hope that no matter how dark things get, light will ultimately triumph. Hope that justice will prevail, that wrongs will be made right.
It’s a promise that the story of our world – with all its pain, heartbreak, and struggle – will have a glorious conclusion. That love wins in the end.
But there’s more. This chapter doesn’t just speak of a future event. It calls us to live differently right now.
The rider’s robe is dipped in blood before the battle even begins – a reminder of the sacrifice already made for us. And he’s called Faithful and True – qualities we’re challenged to embody in our own lives…every single day!
So here’s your invitation, dear friend. Will you join the chorus of “Hallelujah”? Not just with your words, but with your life? Will you align yourself with what’s true and just, even when it’s difficult?
Revelation 19 paints a picture of a future where every tear is wiped away, where light banishes darkness forever. But it also reminds us that we can be agents of that future in the here and now.
Every act of kindness, every stand for justice, every moment of faithfulness – these are notes in the great “Hallelujah” chorus that will one day shake the heavens.
Before I close today, I want you to “hear me,” wherever you are, whatever you’re facing. Perhaps the world around you feels more like Babylon than the New Jerusalem. Maybe you’re struggling to see any light in the darkness.
Remember this: the same power that will one day make all things new is already at work in you and through you. You are not powerless. You are not voiceless. You are a living, breathing “Hallelujah” in a world desperate for hope.
Think about it – every time you choose forgiveness over bitterness, you’re echoing that heavenly chorus.
When you stand up for the marginalized, you’re aligning yourself with the Rider on the white horse. As you pursue truth in a world of deception, you’re embodying the very name of the One called Faithful and True.
Now, I’m not saying it’s easy. Living in light of Revelation 19 means swimming against the current of a world that often rewards selfishness and shortcuts. It means believing in a future you can’t yet see and working towards it even when progress seems slow.
But here’s the beautiful thing – you’re not alone in this.
Look around you. In every act of compassion, every pursuit of justice, every moment of undeserved grace, you’ll see echoes of that final “Hallelujah.” You’re part of a global, cosmic choir, singing a song of hope that stretches across time and space.
So today, I encourage you:
- When you feel small, remember that you’re part of something infinitely bigger than yourself.
- When you’re tempted to give up, recall the persistence of the One who is Faithful and True.
- When injustice seems to win the day, hold fast to the promise that ultimate justice is coming.
Your life, lived with purpose and love, is a powerful testimony. It’s a signpost pointing to that day when heaven and earth will be made new. Every small act of goodness ripples out into eternity.
As I close, I invite you to take a moment. Breathe deeply. Imagine yourself joining that heavenly chorus. Let the hope of Revelation 19 fill you, energize you, and propel you forward.
You are seen. You are valued. And your “Hallelujah” – whether whispered or shouted – is heard.
Go forth today as a living echo of that final, glorious “Hallelujah.” Be a bearer of hope, a pursuer of justice, a channel of divine love. For in doing so, you’re not just preparing for the future – you’re bringing a piece of it into the present.
You can do this! In the power of the Risen Christ, Faithful and True, Hallelujah!
Go in Peace, Chuck
