4forFRIDAY August 24, 2018
Most Friday’s I enjoyed sharing at least four recommended reads, listens, learnings or reviews. Here is this week’s 4forFRIDAY! Enjoy
A Bible That I Totally Love! The Swindoll Study Bible New Living Translation
If you are looking to gift a Bible or start over with a new Bible, you will love this edition. Swindoll’s notes are so helpful and I really enjoy the NLT. If you’ve been at our Sugar Hill Church Worship gatherings, or listening online, you’ll know that I’ve been using the NLT more frequently in my teaching. It’s a bit larg and heavy, but the simple, easy to understand commentary is worth both size and weight!
A Podcast that I was Sharpened BY with Shauna Niequist and Henry Cloud
Shauna Niequist has a really good podcast and I find many of them sharpen and shape much of my ministry and counseling skills. On this episode, Shauna sits down with acclaimed author and psychologist Henry Cloud to discuss the keys to a healthy relationship and how sharing your faith can be a life-changing exercise Cloud’s books have sold more than 10 million copies and he is one of the nation’s most sought-after leadership consultants.
A Reminder of a APP that I use as a Part of My Morning Routine: HE READS TRUTH or SHE READS TRUTH
You can access all of the studies from He Reads Truth or She Reads Truth on their website HeReadsTruth.com or you can purchase the reading plans as you go. Most of them are $1.99. If you don’t have this app yet, grab it. It will make your daily Bible reading so simple. You pick the length of the study, or you pick a book or topic to read thru. Once you’ve read the passage, tap “done” then swipe to the left and read a short commentary. I use this app every single day!
A Brand New Way to Watch TV: YOUTUBE TV
I didn’t believe that you could watch live television, including several cable channels (ESPN, SEC Network, FOX News, CNN, etc) and all of our local channels on any device and tv for $40/mo. Gone with the cable boxes – It’s time for YOUTUBETV.com
And a quote that I am pondering from Henry Cloud:
“There is a big difference between hurt and harm. We all hurt sometimes in facing hard truths, but it makes us grow. It can be the source of huge growth. That is not harmful. Harm is when you damage someone. Facing reality is usually not a damaging experience, even though it can hurt.”
