I can hear James Brown as I write this article. Ha! “Get Up Off of That Thing, Ha!”
Need a little more to take you back to your high school dance? I’m here for ya!
James Brown’s Lyrics, circa 1976.

“Get up offa that thing,
And dance ’till you feel better,
Get up offa that thing,
And dance ’till you, sing it now!
Get up offa that thing,
And dance ’till you feel better,
Get up offa that thing,
And try to release that pressure!
Get up offa that thing,
And shake ’till you feel better!”

Hey folks, this is a nasty season. It’s simultaneously the most wonderful time of the year and the most overwhelming time of the year.

Sometimes I get so caught up in the money I have to raise, the counseling appointments that triple this time of year, or the endless requests for just 10 minutes that I just want to find a whole and hideout until January 2.

And then I realize that what I really need to do is “get up off of my thing and dance till I feel better!” There are so many problems in the world and so many needs clamoring for your immediate attention that you will never get all of them done.

At some point I forgot, and maybe you have too, that Isaiah, the Prophet foretold that Jesus would come and He would be a Most Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting-Forever Father and a Prince of Peace. He came that we might have life and have it now and forever! He came and made this whole Christmas thing the greatest news – ever!

So, if you are a bit like I am today…wallowing in your whiney poor, poor pitiful way. Heres a way to get out of your rut, poke your chest out, lift up your head and sing! Sing it with me: “Get up off of that thing! And dance ’till you feel better!

Our King Has Come – CELEBRATE LIKE IT’s 4 B.C.
and COME LET US ADORE HIM, CHRIST THE LORD!

Okay, so this one didn’t really drive any spiritual truth home, but I can tell you this: if your soul is weary and your heart, heavy – Dance ’till you feel better!”
