Mulligan’s

Remember life as a kid? When you wanted a do-over in the game, the shot, the play, the race? Me too.

I recall desperately needing a mulligan about 20-years ago. I played a little golf (bad golf) back then. I was part of a foursome at a pretty awesome course and a slate full of ringers, including a large gallery of friends, competitors and strangers. With the luck of the draw, I was the first guy up to tee box number one.

I addressed the ball, wiggled my butt and club in rhythm (as if that would help). I drew back my Big Bertha and swung like I was Bubba Watson. Man, I hit that ball like it was my job. It hit the ladies tee marker and came flying back at me. I ducked just in time for that ball to wind up hitting a dude in the gallery behind me. YIKES!

I NEEDED A MULLIGAN – BADLY!

There are many things that I’d like a mulligan for. But the one thing that I’d like to have a mulligan for in my adult life?  That would be slowing down long enough to not have used people as tools to get where I wanted to go, and cared for them and served them as I should have.

Over the course of my adult life I’ve hurt and disappointed a lot of folks. I’d like to think I was better than that, but I think we all know better.

Dad used to say, “the fasted way to get out of a hole, is to stop digging.” So, I will make every effort to serve folks with truth, kindness and gratitude as I enjoy my remaining days on this planet. Thanks for being some of those folks’ I’m honored that you would read my ramblings!
