I’ve been in plenty of seasons when it felt like there was no way out of a difficult challenge. I’ll bet that you have as well. Somehow I seem to exacerbate the problem with my worry wort tendencies, anxious insecurities, and overall “poor, poor pitiful me attitude.”
The thing is that this season can peg the meter when it comes to fear, anxiety and a neverending to-do list. It is also time to be reminded that the God of all creation specializes in delivering the impossible. The entire Christmas story is pretty impossible, right?
The birth of Jesus was not just a difficulty; it was an impossibility. Mary was a virgin. Only God could breathe life into her womb. And just as God caused her to conceive the perfect, sinless Savior — fully God, and fully human — He can accomplish through you, those things that seem impossible in your life. As a matter of fact, He has already been working for your good and for His glory. And doing so in the most impossible ways.
When the shepherds left Mary, she quietly reflected on their words, treasuring them and pondering them often in her heart. Why? Because she was living the impossible. She knew that she had not been with any man in that way, and yet she wrapped the Son of God – her baby – in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger.
It must have been beyond her ability to grasp, that sleeping in her arms—her tender newborn baby—was the Savior of the world. Emmanuel, meaning God with us, was literally being held in the arms of this unlikely young woman. That’s pretty impossible.
When God speaks to you and shows you his will, do you treasure His words quietly, like Mary, and think about them often in your heart? You see, the Divine is still and will forever be in the impossible business. He is the first and the last. He is the embodiment of the term impossible.
Let this be the season that you lay down your pride and hand your impossible over to His care. And, as the title of this article suggests, watch Him take, “there is no possible way,” and turn it into, “but that’s impossible,” regardless of how big or small your impossible might be.
I’ve seen it happen in my life this week!
